U.S. Pro Sports League Finally Accepts CBD Products
One sports league is recognizing the potential of CBD.
Treyous Jarrells, former running back for Colorado State turned cannabis entrepreneur, called High Times. “Got an exclusive for you,” he said. “This is history, my brothers.”
Green Roads Athletics, a division of Green Roads World in which Treyous serves as a consultant, has become the first CBD based company to openly enter the professional sports realm.
“We have finalized a deal with the NAPB [the North American Premier Basketball League],” he said. “We now are the Official Alternative Nutrition for the NAPB.”
“This is history,” Trey repeats. “Athletes such as myself have been working extremely hard to make CBD an alternative alongside the opioids, stimulants, painkiller shots and over the counter medicines a reality. We will be providing the league with pharmacist-formulated CBD products, hosting educational seminars and engaging in community events.”
Even if you’ve never heard about the NAPB before, this development is extremely relevant.
“I think this is HUGE,” Marvin Washington said. He’s a Super Bowl champion turned CBD advocate and cannabis entrepreneur.
“It doesn’t matter what league it is; this has to start somewhere. The people at the NAPB, Treyous and Green Roads are ahead of their time because this movement of athletes supporting CBD use started only six years ago when Colorado legalized recreational cannabis.”
“This is great news, tremendous, wonderful. This is where it all starts,” Washington adds.
The NAPB is a new, minor pro basketball league for North America, created by Dr. Sev Hrywnak, a New York State team owner, and Dave Magley, the former Commissioner of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC). Their idea was to reactivate defunct teams, so they spent about two years identifying cities that once had NBA, original ABA, CBA and D-League teams, but no longer did.
For their inaugural 2017-2018 season, the NAPB managed to get eight teams on board:
- The Vancouver Knights
- The Kansas City Tornados
- The Yakima SunKings
- The Nevada Desert Dogs
- The Ohio Cardinals
- The Rochester RazorSharks
- The Albany Patroons
- The Kentucky Thoroughbreds
But the NAPB is not just about sports, Green Roads’ Founder Arby Barroso points out.
“The NAPB is also about serving the community. Players get involved and help kids around the U.S.,” he says. “This is why Green Roads is such a good fit for the NAPB,” he adds, embarking on a 15-minute ramble about the endless list of charity work, donations and educational programs the company supports.
“We’ve reached more than a million people and currently sponsor over 50 families,” he says. “We are also partnered with the American Cancer Society, Autism Speaks, the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida, NFL Alumni, and Big Brothers and Sisters of America, among other non-profit organizations.”
