RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Aeroplan Is Dead, Long Live Aeroplan: How Aimia Can CompeteGood points and yes, seems like that may be the strategy for Air Canada.
Except...Air Canada misunderstood the competitive landscape in this era of cryptocurrency based loyalty programs.
Air Canada mis-calculated in its strategy and now is in a position of weakness in any negotiations with Aimia/Aeroplan.
Aimia/Aeroplan is in the driver's/captain's seat and will be negotiating from a position of strength in any negotiations with Air Canada.
This is not the first time Air Canada has made business blunders.
Air Canada's losses will be Aimia/Aeroplan's gains/profits.
Anyways, this will all be very very good for Aimia/Aeroplan shareholders!!

1)The Aeroplan program was created in July 1984 by Air Canada as an incentive program for its frequent flyer customers
2) AC had to liquidate assets to exit bankruptcy in the early 2000s , Aeroplan was IPOed as a income trust.
3) AC maintained control of Aeroplan even though they didn't own it( CPSA shows that)
4) Calin R has stated he wants 2 B in savings from loyalty over 15years .That pretty much adds up to the AIM dividend.
5) I believe it is AC s best interest to take back Aeroplan.
Could it be possible that AC had to terminate the CPSA to negotiate with AIM a purchase of Aeroplan?
Just my thoughts.
