RE:RE:EIA Projections to 2050The problem with wind and solar which is NEVER discussed by the mainstream media is simple. It is called Capacity Factor. That is the amount of electricity the plant actually produces divided by the amount of power it WOULD produce if it ran at its nameplate rating for the whole period in question. The glaringly obvious fact is that wind has a capacity factor of only 25 % at the very best wind sites and solar has a capacity factor of only about 30% at the very best solar sites. For wind the plants produce nothing 75% of the time and for solar they produce nothing (just like your skylights) 70% of the time. Nuclear will produce full power 95% of the time irrespective of the weather. That is why without storage solar and wind are a power disaster. Placing your power supply at the mercy of the variability of mother nature is just plain stupid.
However the majority of people think wind and solar are the solution. ...until the price of their power goes through the roof as it is currently doing in California.
So money will be made on the engineering reality that you cannot power industrial economies by wind and solar. Not even with myriad solar batteries supplied by our dear old Elon Musk.
