RE:Patriot One Competitor? In some respects I would say yes, but mostly I would say no. This device is designed to be deployed at some of the same kinds of venues as PAT but it would appear that it is intended to be on the outside of a building.
It uses magnetic detection, not radar, so I'm not sure if it can only detect ferrous containing objects. They reallly stress - large weapons- so I'm not sure about hand guns and knives.
It has no software so it doesn't "learn". It doesn't tell us it's screening range. It's portable and quick to set up. But it really isn't covert and it would appear you would need someone standing with it as it doesn't say how it would identify a specific person; I get the sense an alarm (audio or a light) simply goes off when it senses a large ferrous metal object. Unlike PATscan, it doesn't appear to tell you exactly what that object is. Not sure how well it would connect to other security devices or networks seeing that it's portable.
Neat idea but I wouldn't say it was a direct competitor. If anything, it makes me realize that PATscan is a much superior device.
