You could be on to something with newcrest (and Kas de Luca). But i dont see KL sell. Imo the only way for them (newcrest or another big miner) to take over, is to take over both KL and Novo.
ES and KL have a huge grip on Novo... But i doubt anyone will succeed. I think KL wants to become the biggest by themselves.
