Britain is to help finance exports of Bombardier’s C Series passenger jet, just weeks after a court rejected a claim by Boeing that illegal subsidies from the UK and Canada for the aircraft had caused the US manufacturer significant damage. UK Export Finance, Britain’s export credit agency, will for the first time support the C Series aircraft, whose wings and part of the fuselage are made at Bombardier’s factory in Belfast. Baroness Fairhead, UK minister for trade, said on Thursday that the decision to finance the sale of two aircraft to Korean Airlines in partnership with Export Development Canada, another export credit agency, would “support the global success of Bombardier’s C Series programme and its operations in Northern Ireland”. Britain’s move is yet another blow to Boeing, which last year unleashed a fierce campaign to stop imports of the C Series to the US, a key market.
