A long, long time ago, my dad told me that the worst thing the owner of a retail store can do is to fall in love with his inventory. If he does, he won't sell and he'll go broke. The same is true of investing. However, I beg to differ with you when you say that diamonds have turned out to be one of the worst investments one can make. When DB lost their ability a few decades ago to fix the global diamond price, diamonds became just another commodity, no different than copper, gold, zinc, coal, etc. Over time, there will be swings in diamond prices just like every commodity. When prices are soft, those of faith manage to suck it up and wait for firmer prices to return. Others panic.
