Fairfax public vs private

Fairfax public vs privateI would agree with cactionalpha, the strength here is actually the team. Fairbridge has a large, stable and deep team on the ground in India sourcing deals. The deeper you go the more interesting the contacts get, especially in the burgeoning Indian tech sector. Prem gets to cherry pick the very best in deals.

I think the take home message with this entity is that is has just been born, and it was made to thrive over the very long term.

I do worry that the 5/8 companies are private and that the book value will not surface from them for many many years and when it does, it will be very lumpy. So we will be left with a book value that generally varies based on only 3/8 of the companies. The Indian stock market is notoriously, almost laughably volatile and so this will cut both ways. And the shareholders will be left moaning about the true intrinsic value of the company despite the publicly traded entities sinking in value at some point in the future. This is literally the only problem I foresee with owning Fairfax India.
