Also, how many times have you heard on the news of cyclists getting seriously hurt when automobiles drivers open their car doors when parked?

There have been many such accidents in Montreal and elsewhere.

With the VeloMetro...that will not happen.  The VeloMetro rider is very very safe, even in an accident with an automobile.

Regarding a big truck...well even an automobile is not safe in the situation you described.

Overall, this VeloMetro is very very safe.

I find this quite dangerous to be on the regular road or to reach a cycle path. 
The max speed is 20 mph. I imagine the driver driving at 20mph followed by
a big truck on a secondary street.
