RE:RE:RE:RE:Phase 3
Hey guys, just want to pitch in my 2 cents based on what I've seen with clinical trials in general.
It is not at all unusual for nearly every step to be late, from officially starting the trial to recruitment. In fact, it is very rare that clinical trials meet the milestones initially set. For research sites to get onboarded with the trial in order to enroll their patients, their internal Ethics Board has to approve the trial. Things naturally move very slowly at academic centres and private clinics, and they are very unpredictable. Recruitment is a problem for nearly every trial being run in Canada. To summarize what I've seen in the industry, out of 10 or so clinical trials I've been involved with as an assistant, only 1 met the recruitment targets as predicted. I often wondered why they even bother with putting those patient forecasts together, because it basically never goes as planned. Just saying, don't be alarmed. If they meet their targets, great, but by the nature of these things I'm expecting at least a 6 month delay in finishing phase 3 from what they predict now. And that doesn't worry me because we're still ways ahead of others.
