RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:New York City street light Wi-Fi 1. Can they not bring the high speed ax indoors with an external antenna wired to a internal AP?The idea is to put the AP's outside to service both indoor and outdoor. So no indoor AP's.
2. Then where would WiFi3 fit in? WiFi3 would fit in like any other AP it would go on the Poles outside. Since it has similar distance and penetration stats as current AP's and runs at 2.4 & 5 GHz it should be more than enough to cover most, if not all indoor uses (maybe tall buildings may need AP's up the side of thee building). Also WiFi3 has been validated for density
3. Too many unknowns but I haven't looked to see what the whole NYC plan actually is. Have you? I have read the goals of the project. Some of which sounds like what Kroger is doing. That is using the WiFi with sensors to monitor trafic, pollution, etc.. It would be a small leap to use it to personalize your city experience. DYODD

If the Cable Co's are bidding (which I see as a natural) then WiFi3 will be considered given their association with cable Labs/Mediacom. From my DD I believe the ax standard will come up short (at least as it currently stands).

The timing could be just about right for a project of this kind given that the next major Wi-Fi standard is expected to hit the markets in earnest some time next year. The 802.11ax standard comes with at least two major new features useful for outdoor dense city Wi-Fi deployments: Much longer range and much better performance in high-density environments.
