Consequences of minig piracyGermany-based Cronimet Holding GmbH is exploiting Armenia's Qajaran mine and Artsvanik tailing dam since 2004. In the meanwhile, its subsidiary, Cronimet Envirotec GmbH, has been recognized with a 2017 German Resource Efficiency Prize for its system for the treatment of metallic sludges. The prize was announced by Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) State Secretary Matthias Machnig in late January 2018. Cronimet Holdings GmbH's other subsidiary, Cronimet Mining, owns 60% of the Zangezur Coper Molybdenum Combine (ZCMC) in Qajaran and continues to pollute Armenia's rivers.
