Globe says surge on Trump endorsement ... The Globe and Mail report in its Saturday edition that Colorado Republican Senator Cory Gardner says President Donald Trump's decision to let states decide how to regulate marijuana is a major boost for the legal-pot industry. A Bloomberg dispatch to The Globe reports that Mr. Gardner says as a result of Mr. Trump's assurances, he will end a blockade of Justice Department nominees. Mr. Gardner held up the nominees after Attorney General Jeff Sessions rescinded an earlier Justice Department memo that shielded marijuana operations in states such as Colorado from enforcement of the federal ban on the drug. Mr. Gardiner says: "Since the campaign, President Trump has consistently supported states' rights to decide for themselves how best to approach marijuana. President Trump has assured me that he will support a federalism-based legislative solution to fix this states' rights issue once and for all." White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Mr. Gardner's statement is "accurate." Ms. Huckabee Sanders said Friday, "The President is a firm believer" in states' rights. Marijuana stocks surged on the news. Canopy Growth, Aphria, Horizons Marijuana Life Sciences ETF all made share gains on Friday.
