Interior work continues on city’s new marijuana growing facility
A business that will be growing marijuana in the city's south end is a few steps closer to opening its doors.
Canveda is a privately held company based in Toronto that's licensed to grow medical marijuana.
It was slated to have seeds in the ground by the new year, but on Monday an employee said they're still working on the interior of the building.
It's located on Technology Dr., kitty corner to Ventra Plastics. A Canveda sign once hung on the property, but it was removed shortly after it was installed.
Canveda CEO Les Hansen previously said the company expects to produce 1,200 kilograms of marijuana a year in the 12,000-square-foot plant.
Although the business has a licence to grow medical marijuana, it will be able to distribute to both medical and recreational channels once weed becomes legal in July.
Canveda is looking to hire between 30 to 50 employees once it's up and running.
