Just a little observation.....If the price of gas or diesel goes through the roof in BC, just before the start of the summer driving season, I wonder how many tourists will bi-pass BC, if they can especially if they are pulling the big 5th-wheel RV trailers and driving motor-homes? Also, I think that the new Federal Carbon Tax is suppose to go into affect on July 1st if I recall properly. With all the add on taxes fuel, alone, will be $3.00 a liter the way things are going. The old joke, years ago, was BC didn't mean British Columbia. It meant BRING CASH. This summer it could mean bring a BRINKS truck loaded with cash. The Americans will be avoiding BC like the Plague and the Europeans will be having near heat-attacks when they top up their rental motor-homes with fuel. I wonder how many lay-offs there will be in the BC tourism and hospitality industry if visitor numbers are down significantly and hotels, Restaurants and Resorts, throughout BC, can't generate enough income to pay for the increased food and beverage costs, increased delivery of goods costs when the trucking companies tack on their fuel charges, increased labour costs, increases to the provincial carbon tax and the implementation of the new Federal Carbon-Tax. BC may even end up with a fuel shortage. There will be a lot of ruffled feathers if there are long line ups at the gas pumps and signs on the pumps indicating that they are out of fuel. It will be like the 1970's fuel shortages in the USA all over again. The long-range weather forecast is calling for a hotter summer then last summer. If Alberta cuts off fuel and oil to BC I think that the temperature is going to rise a lot higher than first projected in more ways than one.
The Premier of BC might want to think about stockpiling fuel for emergency services vehicles, Department of BC Highways, Provincial Firefighting and forestry crews and water-bombers, etc. just in case. I almost forgot.... the Black Market guys could end up making a killing, this summer, in the illegal transportation and sale of fuel as they sell to anyone that is willing to buy it and not have to pay provincial tax. Who says that the underground economy is dead. I think that it will be strong and living in BC this summer.
