Review of my first D-box movie experienceWell, I finally got out to enjoy our first D-box movie experience. Watched Marvel's Infinity War in Ottawa / Scotiabank Theatre. Took the kids out and got them excited about the movie and the fact that we would be watching it on d-box seats.
I was surprised at how many D-box seats there were in the theatre, and they also had the D-box VR experience area outside. I would say about 70%-80% of the D-box seats were occupied. It did cost a pretty penny to get out with the whole family, .. overall I would say it was worth it.
I enjoyed most of the motion effects, but I have to admit, after a long movie, it gets a bit disturbing towards the end. At least, the motion is not continuous, they take sufficient pauses and turn it up when the moment is right, and of course you can control the level of motion with their seat controls.
I wasn't sure how my drink and popcorn in hand would survive the movie, you do have to pay more attention to not dropping the popcorn, but the cup holder was fine with my drink in it.
I was also impressed with the quality of the motion effects, they were very precise, from simulating soft to hard vibration to right out swing motions, and 'shock' type motion.
I can see audiences demanding this type of experience, especially for action type movies and more of a 'fun' night out. The experience really doesn't compete with recliner seating, it all depends on the type of movie and the mood you're in.
I can see a future for this tech, we just need the company to start generating profits!
