RE:RE:NewsFreedom Ledger is a standalone app designed to give access to crypto without having to go through the currently complex (for the layman) process of creating a wallet, buying on an exchange, etc. The BTC sidechain is essentially infrastructure to avoid the transactional limitations and cost of transacting on the bitcoin blockchain directly. This will be integrated within the Peerplays Dapps to allow them to not be constrained as such. I am no expert, but there are a lot of experts on the Peerplays telegram group where you would be best to ask for a more technical answer. Senter is a great resource there.
