In general, skunks are very smart.  We should all model our behaviour after them.
They use their spray rather sparingly. If they empty their sacks it takes 6 or 7 days to
restore their auto-replenish process to replace the sweet smelling liquid.
So.  They do not let go too readily. They are resource conscious and frugal in not wasting their precious asset.

Famboy, you can test my theory.  Get up close.  Within 3 feet or a meter and reach out as if to touch.  You will see that the skunk holds back unless you move too suddenly.
