The left turn Namaste took into the off-leash area with this announcement had me in stitches for a good few minutes.
Now, I’ve not been too kind to this drop shipping headshop in the past. And having looked at their latest financials, it’s pretty easy to understand why.
I mean, a $450MM company run by software developers that has no experience in cannabis - and $120,000 (yes, $120k) in actual assets is enough. Add in take or pay supply deals that are costing them $6/gram wholesale, and 30% sleeved margin on chinese vapes, it doesn’t really look like much of a business at all.
This AI buy though, rings of what is really at the bottom of the company: a piggybank to fund an IT geek fetish.
Once I dried the tears that that hearty laughter had brought to my eyes, I immediately thought of the poor hapless investor that’s got money in them.
Not only do you get drop shipped chinese hardware exposure, you get a non-vertical dope business that directly competes with real live clinical set ups, fully priced 3rd party wholesale costs, unproven ‘next big thing’ algorithmics... you also get exposure to AI and machine learning to leverage said unproven cookie developers.
The biggest laugh of all is in development. It is expensive. Like, crazy expensive. And algos need mathematicians, and all kinds of specialized talent.
See, I worked with mathematicians and probabilistic models and financial engineers and risk engines and all that good stuff for a couple of decades. And for every actual useful bit of software out there, there was several dozens of **** *** attempts by people who knew little what they were doing. Worst was the repurposed stuff.
You want to try it? Go build a pyramid upside down and use it as a dining room table for a similar experience.
Anyhow, while this is a laugh a minute for me - and during these industry share price doldrums - longs can use a good laugh atm, I’m gonna go put on a black armband, and spare a minute for the people who bought what they were told was a giraffe, but is now turning itself into a platypus.

You sure spend a lot of time analyzing and typing and laughing at a company, /u/mollytime.
The problem is that you didn't mention the fact that Namaste is casting aside vaporizers for actual cannabis sales.
How did you miss that?
It also has an incredibly popular app that gets consumers prescriptions quickly and easily. I read 1600 new patients were acquired in the month of March without any marketing.
My experience with NamasteMD was that it was quick and easy as it took me less than a week to receive my first herby package from start to finish. And that's from another LP which will be replaced by Cannmart is a few weeks time.
Cannmart is going to open soon and leverage the existing user data and EXPLODE.
