RE:Hey Elon !!!I have a feeling that's exactly what he's hiding. 
Elon have a habit of making outragous prediction/assumption/projections .. I think this is his 2nd or 3rd time stating there's no need for Cobalt in the battaries. 
Cobalt is used as  stability part of the battary that Nickel lacks. 
Nickel is the part that increase the density of the battary to increase the charge.

If you squeeze in alot more nickel to increase range (what Elon have been doing) in porportion to Cobalt.  Then the battary is less stable. hence.. catches on fire more often.

What i'm interested is that why isn't there report that state the battary make up is part of the issue? 

Part of my feeling is that Elon wants to secure a cobalt supply, but want to bash it publicly during his private negotiation hoping to get it at a lower price. 

I generally don't believe in Elon's word.
