RE:Future of Nuclear is Bleak.....It is just facts not cool aid Will1999. My training is in Nuclear Engineering and I have read all of these reports that wind and solar can power the world for the last 50 years or more and they are full of holes. The simple problem they all fail to grasp is this. Society runs 24 hours a day 7 days a week. That means you cannot have your power system at the mercy of the weather. Sunshine is a weather phenomenon so is wind. Are societies like Germany really going to tolerate having no electricity for weeks on end when the wind does not blow and the clouds cover the SUn...not forgetting there is no solar power when the Sun goes down. One big dose of that for Germany and California and nuclear will be turned to as the only viable option....which of course it is.
Germany's CO2 emissions are going up not down and they have abandoned any hope of achieving those lofty goals....because you cannot do it without nuclear power. Every engineer worth his or her salt on this planet knows that. Look at Britain. Years of shutting down coal plants and not investing in nuclear power have left them scrambiling. Now they are reverting to nuclear power and paying a heavy price for it.
The Germans will not tell you how many wind turbine failures have occurrred. The system they started to build just 20 years ago is starting to fall to pieces. Towers collapsing, fires, gearbox failures...you never hear the media talk about that because they are biassed idiots for the most part with degrees in sociology or political science.
So let them think that nuclear is dead. When they realise they have only one option left....well that is more money in my pocket.
