Newmont Welcomes Sumitomo as Valued Partner at Yanacocha

06/20/2018

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Newmont Mining Corporation (NYSE: NEM) (Newmont or the Company) welcomed Sumitomo Corporation(Sumitomo) as a new and valued partner in Minera Yanacocha SRL (Yanacocha) following its purchase of a five percent stake in the partnership. Newmont, Buenaventura and Sumitomo completed the transaction today in which Sumitomo paid $48 million for the ownership interest in Yanacocha. In December 2017, Yanacocha repurchased the International Finance Corporation’s (IFC) five percent stake which it held since 1992 when it provided debt financing for construction of the operation.

So, it's difficult to use the "... the friend of my enemy is my ememy"   paradigm here
or will Newmont just stew for a while and then say"... well, gee, we sold too soon" and get over it.
If this is true, it would very useful to know who cut that deal from Newmont's POV.   And how much of a "revenge seeker" they might be.

Oh...there is a relationship all right.  And it's an uneasy one by the look of it.  Something that relates back to the "Ode to The Financier".  A past wrong will eventually have to be righted.

Taylor refreshes his buy of Novo Resources
2017-09-19 21:33 ET - In the News

Jay Taylor, writing in the Sept. 12, 2017, issue of Gold, Energy and Tech Stocks:

Mr. Taylor says Newmont Mining Corp. sold 11.83 million Novo shares to Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd. at $1.60, reducing Newmont's Novo holdings to 5 per cent from 14.9 per cent.

The deal was made in early July, before Novo's stock price exploded. The editor says he heard from someone in the know that Newmont tried to renege on the deal, but Kirkland forced Newmont to honour its commitment. Kirkland has also arranged to buy 14 million Novo shares at $4 for $56-million, after which Mr. Taylor says Novo will have $77-million to pay for exploration at its Australian gold targets.

Novo is an amazing story in the making, he says, pointing out that not much has been proven so far.

"Without going into more excruciating detail, I figured it may be best if someone else explained it as well.  What I believe we are rapidly trending towards is reiterated in the “The Art of the Deal” – with specific focus at the 5:30 to 16:30 minute marks. "
