LONDON--European plane maker Airbus SE (AIR.FR) delivered only 303 planes in the first six months, increasing pressure on the Boeing Co. BA, +0.44% rival to boost output in the second half to meet a full-year target of shipping around 800 planes.
Airbus deliveries have lagged most of the year because of supplier bottlenecks, principally from engine suppliers for its popular A320neo single-aisle plane. Airbus delivered only 76 A320neo planes and 34 of the larger A321neo, it said Thursday.
Airbus has said it still expects to deliver the promised number of planes this year and meet cash-flow targets. The company previously warned most deliveries and cash generation would come later in the year. The company had delivered 306 planes at the mid-year point in 2017.
Airbus's gross-order intake is slightly ahead of last year's pace, with 261 deals secured compared to 248 at the same point last year. Airbus's net order intake in 2018, after cancellations, stood at 206 planes at the end of June. Order intake is expected to jump after the Farnborough Air Show outside London later this month, where airlines typically place large orders for new planes.
