Perhaps Aeroplan can have an annual membership fee...just like Amazon Prime does.

Also, there are further cross-marketing opportunities with Amazon.

For example, maybe Aeroplan members can receive a discounted membership rate with Amazon Prime...and...Amazon Prime members would receive a discounted membership rate with Aeroplan.

IMO what should happen is after 1 year the company should be able to apply a marginal admin/IT cost associated with keeping that account active and remove points at that cost.  That is reasonable.
