RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Alces Lake

RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Alces LakeYes indeed. Not all REE's are alike. The so-called "critical" rare earth elements are those used for wind generating machines. Neodymium is the main one. Normal power generating machines use soft iron magnets but they are heavy (REALLY HEAVY) which is OK for use in a regular turbine hall but when your generator is stuck up the top of a 200ft or higher tower the weight of the magnet is all important. If too heavy the tower has to be much stronger and much deeper in the ground...and all that adds cost. So wind generasting machines (I personally dislike them intensely...noisy eyesores) MUST use permanent magnets made of rare earthe like Yttrium, neodymium and niobium. So some are rarer and more in demand than others and they are called the critical rare earths. Bottom line is that Alces Lake looks like it has significant deposits of the critical rare earths which are more valuable.
