Quantity of shares 'consumed' - this is absolutely irrelevant. 

Consider the quantity of freely tradeable shares, not the total float issued to date. 

Of greater relevance, when your playing both sides, a million shares traded is not a million shares in 'new hands'.

A question worth finding an answer to (hint hint IR), is whether or not directors & insiders partake in share lending to brokerage houses, and if so, to whom and in what quantities? ;)
