Confusion around Record Data (Selling)Hi All,
I called TD this morning and was on the phone for 1.5 hours. I spoke to 5 different ppl. NOBODY knows what to say in terms of when this stock can be sold to still get the shares. First person agreed with me that t+2 would indicate you needed to buy by yesterday (all ppl I evantually spoke to agreed on this), ALSO the first person agreed that I should be able to sell today and still recieve the shares. BUT I called back to get a second opinion. This is were it got really dicey, I ended up speaking to MGRS in two differenet departments (back office and front office) and they are completely confused by this. They are saying that SX didn't register any documentation declaring the x-dividend date and therefore they cannont advise which day you can sell by and still get the shares. The MGR even called SX himself as I forced him too and they didn't answer. So he is saying we need to hold until the Record Date as disclosed in the NR. This seems ridiculas to me, my rersearch would indicate that you can sell today and still get the shares as it would take 2 days to no longer be the shareholder of record meaning you would still be the shareholder of record on the 7th. Has anybody spoken to a broker who can confirm this? TD is useless...
