RE:RE:RE:Pebble critics chagrin, as their arguments turn against them
"What gall do you have and all the pro Pebble people have to discount the feeling's of the people that don't want that mine built."
That's our point exactly.
People are upset because the mine will poison and kill the salmon, or so they are led to believe. But as my article, "Pebble critics chagrin, as their arguments turn against them" shows, environmentalists 'facts' are 'factitious', based on falsehoods. They scare people, and I'm sorry for that, but that is no reason not to build the mine.
People's feeling's have nothing to do with Pebbles permitting.
It's the facts that matter. The permitting will be based on facts, not feelings.
And as for your saying,
"There are NO guarantees something catastrophic won't and can't happen."
"The ONLY guarantee is NOT to build the mine in the first place."
That was the exact same argument made against the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, and it was shown to be completely false. And not only that, the pipeline proved to be a God send for Alaska. Its money used to fund state projects, help residents, and Native Alaskan's, plus part of it was put in a fund which pays everyone in Alaska a yearly dividend.
Forgetting National Safety, and that the strategic minerals that Pebble contains are needed for America, what you propose:
(Not building the Pebble mine), is an insult to the residents, and also Native People of Alaska. Not only will the mine not harm the salmon, which by the way, are no longer the life blood of Native Alaskans, but of increasingly foreign owners of the fishing fleets, it will give new life and financial stability to the people of Alaska, especially since it will mean a large influx of money to the states' fund that pays the people of Alaska a yearly dividend.
And that dividend has been decreasing, as the oil transported by the Alaska Pipeline is dwindling.
AND that dividend from Pebble will last well over a hundred years, because the mine is projected to last well over a hundred years. In fact, only a SMALL PORTION OF THE PEBBLE DEPOSIT(S) HAVE BEEN DRILLED. THE ACTUAL DEPOSIT IS MANY TIMES ITS PRESENT DEFINED SIZE. SO THE DIVIDEND WILL BE FUNDED FOR OVER 200 YEARS.
THAT IS WHAT YOU ARE PROPOSING TO DENY THE PEOPLE OF ALASKA.
When the people of Alaska realize what is happening, and what is at stake, they will vote in favor of the Pebble mine.
