OT: First they came for the Socialists,When I was young I couldn't understand how the common man or woman in a Christian nation such as Germany could or would allow a twisted demagogue such as Adolph Hitler seize the reins of power. Later I realized that it was because too many moral, ethical, and patriotic citizens failed to speak out about the danger soon enough. Perhaps some were intimidated by the Hitler's Brown Shirts and were afraid to speak out, others perhaps were too sensitive to politeness and decorum, and spoke of lies as misstatements and corruption as eccentrics. Famously, Martin Niemller a prominent Protestant pastor and an outspoken public foe of Adolf Hitler, and who spent the last seven years of Nazi rule in concentration camps, is perhaps best remembered for the peom:
"First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out Because I was not a Socialist."
Now of course the question of "How could this happen" has materialized in my own time; and I feel compelled to speak out using strong language that conveys the critical threat posed by Donald J. Trump to the rule of law, American liberty, and freedom. Hitler also promised to make Germany great again, but instead massacred millions, while virtually destroying his nation's economy and infrastructure, and forever staining it's honor.
We now have that very same challenge before us that confronted the German people 80 years ago. Do we dare speak out in plain terms about the disaster that is overtaking our nation, or do we cravenly cringe from the price of liberty that Americans for 240 years have willingly paid for with their lives? Preferring ballots over bullets I have committed myself to do everything I can, including spending evenings and weekends working for a democratic victory over despotism, honesty over corruption, and truth over lies.
