One other thing I should have added is that they changed their model around 15 months ago as well. They decided to forgo the stability of selling energy at slightly discounted prices to prusue the higher profits of residential consumers.

The only flaw in their new model is that residential customers are highly sought out and offered discounts to go elswhere on a regular basis without obligatory contracts.

This scared off many of the institutional owners of the units and they unloaded before it all fell apart.

That's the same dark cloud hanging over Just Energy at the moment.

The problem with this model is that there is never a stable base to work from, or at least not as stable as some very disciplined value investors are willing to take a chance on.
