IMO, KL backstopping chairman'sPulpcutter, I presume you've listened to your own link provided with Tony speaking to the oz mining group....he clearly states they believe the Pilbara is going to be huge. Kirkland wants to be the driving force there (not a bit player or bystander) so this is why the big financial committment. Right or wrong, that is their opinion. So far kl has done a fantastic job growing Fosterville, NT and Macassa so hard to find fault with their direction so far. 
Personally, I would stick to what they currently have and expand current resources....however, that same logic would have not allowed spending more $ at NT but now they infer that NT could be a huge surprise very soon, so their persistence seems to be paying off. 
BTW, the video link you provided was a great listen and clearly KL will be a continuing huge growth story for years to come. I liked his comment to this mining group where he says something like "don't think its too late to buy in" as he was outling huge growth currently taking place. A good video clip with interesting info!
