I'm thinking they picked it up, expecting the div to come back, and now that it hasn't they need to get rid of the share as it's dragging down their dividend yield.

They sold a bunch during the Buffet run up. At that point they were up close to ~300% on their initial investment. It was a no brainer to lock in some of those profits.
