Grand opening for hotel in Oliver

Grand opening for hotel in Oliver
Chelsea Powrie

Oliver's first full-service hotel celebrated it's official grand opening Thursday.

The Oliver Coast Hotel opened its doors to guests two months ago, but held a ceremony and ribbon cutting to mark the occasion Aug. 16.

The modular-built hotel went from breaking ground to greeting guests in roughly eight months.

"This is huge for the Town of Oliver, we've been wanting a hotel for many years," said Ron Hovanes, Oliver's mayor. "We're already seeing the downtown starting to be a little bit kick-started. People are already asking, what can we do next?"

Owner Ron Mundi, who also owns several other Coast hotels including one in Osoyoos, is thrilled with the project, especially since it was his first time working with modular materials.

"The first project when you pick, you're a little bit nervous before, but now I'm glad that I picked this route, they've done a wonderful job," Mundi said.

He worked with Horizon North Manufacturing on the project.

"Horizon North sees modular construction as an important part of the construction industry," said vice president of Horizon North Joe Kiss. "There is a great potential in the way modular builds can work for businesses and municipalities on projects that support communities and quality of life."

Mundi said the hotel has seen an over 90 per cent occupation rate since its opening in June.
