RE:Road updates

RE:Road updates Since you are a relatively new member of this board you are probably unaware of previous discussions on road construction time .Unfortunately the agency that provides these EA review updates always includes a misleading comment that the Whati road will take 4 years to build.

In my post on 23 March 2018 I provided a summary of construction options in  rpt-W2016E0004-TASR-PROJECT DESCRIPTION. It is an excellent 283 page NWT Government document provided to EA participants, and I believe to the 3 consortiums expected to bid on the road contract.

The report stated that road construction would take 4 years if built only from the southern end, but it could be shortened by up to 2 years if built from both ends at the same time. It also stated that the 2 year option would be less expensive than the 4 year option. Other advantages included increased Whati employment and other Whati economic opportunities during construction.. The main disadvantage was having to stockpile building suppliies and equipment at the Whati end using ice-roads. That would require some FT funding prior to Jan 2019.

If you have the time Google the report number above and learn a lot about NWT road construction.  GLTA   Bob
