Particularly with regard to Novo. As far as I can tell, the sum total of due diligence done before the initial buy of Novo shares was Tony Makuch and a few others walking around the Pilbara with metal detectors. Stunning. The initial buy (Newcrest's shares) was at a low price. We paid for the shares we bought directly from Novo for $58 million. Then, bizarrely, we paid $5/share - well over market - for Artemis's shares. This after we had nearly a year down the road of watching Novo screw up, and utterly fail to replicate anything like the high grades shown in August 2017.
How can one blame institutional investors for being cautious? It goes to the credibility, or sanity, of company leadership.
