ABSOLUTELY - I`ve traded this way before...big ask @ 10.5 to make it appear you want out, but also bidding in little increments @ 10 and scooping small lots only to feed the 10.5 ask again. Sometimes you can get burned if a big buyer steps up to the plate and takes your position - then your chasing, game on
It`s all fair game, if you get into the sweet spot you can make some good scratch on a daily basis. But sooner or later someone else moves into the position. A good example would be the participants in the last 2 PP`s - they gladly sell it down with their huge positions triggering shallow stop loss sell orders along the way. This way they end up with a larger position cheaper than their original entry point. When you have millions of shares you can control the bid / ask and scoop the unsuspecting retail shares out from under the holders position. But it`s not fool proof, whoever is privy to best information first prospers the most, if your on the outside looking in when that positive NR hits....your out baby.
