When Canadians are able to buy legal recreational marijuna, we are going to start generating a lot of consumer data.

Some of it will be clearly linked to individuals: credit card purchases at physical stores and online ordering to home addresses, for example.

If your Canadian marijuana-buying data ends up on a server in the United States, could it make its way to U.S. border officials? There’s little to stop it, privacy experts say.

And that could have lasting consequences. Canadians can be barred for life from the United States — even after legalization here — if a border officer decides that they are an “abuser” of marijuana.

I honestly think alot of older non smokers will try it because the anonymity buying online gives them. Plus people love shopping online for everything hence amazons $1 trillion dollar evaluation and retail stores closing all over. I would for one rather buy online and pick the actual strain/supplier i want rather then waste my time driving down to the store only to find out it's not in stock.

Obviously you're going to have to enter your name and address into that system, so they can deliver the stuff to you. OK, so that information is going to go into a provincial database. Like those never get hacked or leak, right? At the same time, we're hearing the US is going to deny access across the border to anyone who has ever had anything to do with pot, including using it. So who in their right mind is going to accept the risk of being denied access to the US because of a leak from an Ontario government database? Not me. The only way I'll purchase pot through a store is if I can have the exact same experience as buying alcohol. As long as you look older than 19 no ID should be required, there should be no recording of any personal information - walk in, pick up the stuff, pay for it (with cash if you're really careful), and walk out. Anything else, forget it. I think many people are going to feel the same, and on October 17 most people in Ontario are going to continue to use existing sources of supply. The legalization of pot in Canada, at least from the aspect of legal sales, is going to start as a complete flop. Thank you Doug Ford.
