Rowan moving rigs from PanCanadian Nova Scotia play
CALGARY, Nov 21 (Reuters) - Offshore driller Rowan Cos. Inc. (NYSE:RDC - news) said on Tuesday it was preparing to move two rigs from a PanCanadian Petroleum Ltd. (Toronto:PCP.TO - news) natural gas exploration prospect off Nova Scotia following the current drilling phase.
Houston-based Rowan said it would move its Gorilla III jack-up rig to the U.S. Gulf of Mexico this week and the Gorilla V rig to the nearby Sable Offshore Energy Project.
The rigs had been contracted to PanCanadian, Canada's top exploration and production firm, for its Deep Panuke drilling program. The company is expected to release much-anticipated results from two recent exploration wells in the coming weeks.
One has been completed and the other is nearing completion, PanCanadian spokesman Alan Boras said.
Some industry players have said the Deep Panuke prospect, at the site of a depleted oil field, could rival the producing Sable fields, located 250 kilometres (155 miles) southeast of Halifax. Sable is expected to produce as much as 600 million cubic feet a day by the end of this year.
PanCanadian of Calgary was set to start working through the data from its recent wells before formulating more drilling plans for Deep Panuke, Boras said.
Rowan said the Gorilla III rig would have its legs extended before starting work in the Gulf in early January. The other rig was slated to start drilling at Sable after it is released by PanCanadian in early December, said Rowan, which added that it still expected to earn 27 cents a share in the fourth quarter, ``give or take a nickel.''
