RE:RE:RE:Trades on ATS You make some valid points about the ATS.
I have been watching with interest for years the degrees of manipulation and lack of transparency in the Marketplace for years and there is a whole lot more to who and what controls the ATS Market.
When you buy or sell a stock, the order goes through a "clearing house". This "clearing house" is what decides what amount of shares are cleared through the V Exchange and what amount of shares are dispersed to the other Exchanges known as the ATS.
As an example, a few weeks ago I placed a 10,000 share order for HIP shares as there were over 50,000 shares advertised as being available for purchase on the Ask. My broker is RBC. Within a second 9,000 shares were exchanged on the V exchange but 1,000 shares were not sold even though there were ample shares left on the Ask through the Ventre exchange. Five minutes later my 1,000 shares were transferred on the "U" exchange and my brokerage advertised for buying was "Anonymous" and not RBC who is my real brokerage.
Below are a couple of examples of trades executed at the same time from the same Seller and dispersed through more than 1 exchange. The blue highlight indicates the exchange.
10:03:49 | H | 0.72 | -0.03 | 1,000 | 79 CIBC | 124 Questrade | K |
10:03:49 | A | 0.72 | -0.03 | 8,500 | 99 Jitney | 124 Questrade | K |
10:01:38 | A | 0.72 | -0.03 | 4,500 | 99 Jitney | 9 BMO Nesbitt | K |
10:01:38 | V | 0.72 | -0.03 | 1,500 | 9 BMO Nesbitt | 9 BMO Nesbitt | K |
The moral of the story is don't get too concentrated on what the ATS is all about. The whole stock market is one manipulated scam and the ATS is just one little piece of the scam.
