RE:Petition to end institutions shorting

RE:Petition to end institutions shortingI don't think this link wil work, but neither would a petition. There are some benefits to shorting that keep people from getting to the 2500th level of a highrise of a stock verging on collapse because of sweet talking CEOs.

But.. that said, it is abused. Getting rid of Stop-losses is a key ingredient to reducing short selling on legitimate companies, but taking the shares out of a borrowable state also helps. The idea is simple - unless the company is full of corruption, has no working business model, and/or is using dilution to create private gains for insiders - it reduces the motivation for someone to want to try a short sell.

A company that can stand against scrutiny makes a terrible target for an honest and useful short seller.
