Advanced plasma processes company PyroGenesis Canada Inc.recently finished work on a new $2.5 million plant for metal powders used in additive manufacturing in Montreal, QC, the firm announced Tuesday.
Focused on the manufacturing of plasma atomized Ti-6A1-4V powders, the plant contains a plasma-based atomization unit, inventory storage areas, and logistics operations. Powders produced at the facility will be marketed primarily to the aerospace and biomedical industries.
“We are very excited about having completed this milestone. It puts PyroGenesis squarely on the map as a quality supplier of Ti-6A1-4V powder for the AM industry,” Massimo Dattilo, vice president of PyroGenesis Additive, in a statement. “In parallel, we are also investigating other materials which can be produced with our other reactors, currently in our main facility.”
PryoGenesis’ Montreal production plant has received ISO 9001:2015 certification and the company said it expects to obtain AS9100D (Aviation, Space, Defense) certification by the end of the 2018. In the near future, the firm also plans to secure the ISO 13485 (Medical Devices) credential.
“After investing of $2.5M into this facility, all that remains is to incorporate post-treatment equipment for it to be a standalone facility,” said P. Peter Pascali, the company’s chief executive officer and president, in a press release.
Further innovations are slated to come online in the coming years that will increase the rate of production and yield.
