RE:questions to mining expert
Read this:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uraninite
Uraninite (uranium dioxide), is a major ore of Uranium and one known for its association to the Oxide copper ore bodies.
Some of the highest grade uranium ores in the world were found in the Shinkolobwe mine in the DRC, providing the initial source for the Manhattan Project back in the day. It also occurs widely in the Athabasca Basin in northern Saskatchewan, Canada.
So its presence in the Katanga copperbelt has long been widely known.
Ordinarily, selective and sequential Mining and blending of copper ore stockpiles created after mining ores with associated Uraninite lead to the provision of copper product (cathode and/or concentrate) with contained UO2 that falls BELOW international guidlines.
Infact, copper concentrates shipped to (some) offshore smelters are routinely penalized on a monetary scale according to their contained UO2 content, whilst other smelters refuse processing.
KAT will fix this issue, I jave no doubt.
These are my views only. Thanks for reading.
