An Important Step
An Important StepIn 1984, I left a secure position as a VP of a large leather belt manufacturing company and started a my own company in my garage. I struggled for three years until I hired a seasoned sales person. He had relationships with the buyers of large retail chain stores. I remember it like it was yesterday, he promised me that he would get me into Target Stores.
The one thing stopping our company was the fact that we did not have a vendor number to do business with Target. After many samples and disappointments we finally got a vendor number.
They gave us a 50 dozen test order, which my wife and I applied the rivets by hand on our kitchen table because we could not afford a riveting machine.
A month later, the buyer called me and said our belt did well and wanted to know when we could ship 2000 dozen belts.
24,000 belts was more belts than I had shipped in the previous 3 years. Over the next decade, we became the number one belt vendor for Target Stores.
Having the Target Stores account gave us credibility and we secure over 60 retail chain customers and our company grew exponentially.
I can relate to Genoil trying to find the cheese in the maze. I am not saying that Genoil is off to the races, but by getting a certificate to do business with Pemex is a very important step.
