RE:lotta baggers in thisSounds as though you are thinking much more from the mind set of a trader. If so, you are indeed correct and your friend has indeed incurred a huge opportunity loss by being too greedy.
Now, if your friend is a long term investor which many are when they buy into the stock market, the game is far from over. Only time will tell if he has won or loss since he has a much longer vision in mind which you seem to be mistaking to be greed on his part, which it is not.
