RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Brian Madden Discusses Alta Gas On BNN YesterdayThe decline from 2014 through 2015 was hardly out of step with the entire energy sector. Nor was the recovery from $27.25 to $35.15 between Jan.18, 2016 and Jan.04, 2017. It was after the announcement of the acquisition in January 2017 that the dry rape began.
The chart is instructive, but like most things, if you don't put it in context it's also misleading. Regardless, $14/share is unequivocally horrific. Nothing misleading about that.

You could have doubled your money with the dividend and reinvesting shares in 7 years. It's encoutaging that they are trying a different direction now after the past years. Instead of all your gains coming in the form of a dividend they plan to grow EPS and pay a smaller dividend we'll see how it plays out. Most retail investors won't like the ESP and smaller dividend but funds with millions of shares will like it because their ownership in the company will not be diluted over time. This actually makes the company a more attractive long term hold than it was previously. Is it ALA's fault that they trade at a massive discount to peers 11x 2020 PE compared to the peers at 16x PE? Partly, but part of it is also the market overeaction. Trading at 4.3 x FFO 2.7x EBITDA 2019 is a bit ridiculous considereing they just sold assets at 27x ebitda
