RE:RE:Deja Vu all over again ? The relationship between DeBeers and the Botswana govt is complex.
In the first place, the producing mines in Botswana are owned and operated by Debswana, which is a 50/50 joint venture between DeBeers and the govt.
Secondly, DeBeers itself is 15% owned by the Botswana govt with the other 85% owned by Anglo American.
Another govt venture is the Okavango Diamond Company which is entitled to sell 15% of Debswana's production to anyone they wish. In my opinion the black swan for Clara is to secure a proportion of that.
"Okavango Diamond Company, or ODC, is a rough diamond marketing company that is wholly owned by the Botswana Government. We offer our global customer base open access to scale supply of the full range of rough diamonds sourced from Botswana. With access to 15% of Debswana's run-of-mine production, ODC is an important supplier to the market with sales in the region of $500 million per annum." https://www.odc.co.bw/#sell
