RE:TORSTAR's SHARE PRICE IS BECOMING A REAL CONCERNHi modulex,
We aren't looking at a 52 week low - I believe each day represents an all-time low The shares can drop to virtually zero if no one wants to own them. That's not going to happen because of the dividend and Fairfax, but to the outside world, this company is viewed as almost worthless.
I would read nothing into Boynton's insignificant investment of $21,000 in B shares. If he thought he was going to double his money he would have invested more of his $2.5 million in compensation in the stock. He probably found an uncashed expense cheque in his wallet and couldn't think of anything else to do with the funds. He has demonstrated no confidence in the stock in the time he has been CEO and his future financial security does not rest on his owning 20,000 shares.
I agree there will or should be some sort of arrangement with Postmedia in the future, but the Voting Trust isn't going to be interested in shares or anything less than absolute control of the merged entity. That's not going to happen. We will get cash and not worthless shares in some entity co-managed by the geriatric set of Honderich and Godfrey.
