Statistically, a majority of those who do so tend to underperform on the long-term (unless they have superior information or a thoroughly tested model/methodology and even then...) Then another way to look at what is affected by volatility is the options markets but depending on the strategy used it can be very risky or simply not worth pursuing most of the time due to high transaction costs and bid-ask spreads.
