Coke should be cautious because MJ is a new product and the effects of widespread long term use is still being studied.  Nobody knows for certain if the longterm use of new edible or drinkable products will have unexpected side effects.  If something negative happened, Coke's reputation could be seriously impacted.  Maybe nothing like that will happen but the possibility has to make Coke nervous until MJ products have been widely used for a longer period and side effects are known to be minor.  I'm not saying we should worry gloom and doom but we should at least be aware that MJ products are not yet proven safe for all users until they have been on the market a lot longer.

If you think Government approved products won't have serious side effects: There are currently 35 US FDA-Approved Prescription Drugs that were pulled from the market after severe unexpected side effects appeared after widespread public use.  If only a small number of people could be severely affected by long term MJ use, it would hurt the reputation of a large company like Coke.  They don't want any part of that so obviously they will be cautious.

Know this: MJ is a drug that contains the mind-altering chemical THC and other similar compounds..  Researchers are still studying how long marijuana's effects last and whether some changes may be permanent.  The whole MJ sector is moving at warp speed and only time will tell if moving so fast will hurt the MJ sector stock prices long term.

We are only at the beginning of the marijuana sector growth so there's a big future ahead for MJ.  I think it will be mostly positive but only time will tell.
