They are likely open institutional orders ("Insto's") placed through trading desks at Brokerage firms. The trader might have an inso. buy order of say 2MM shares limit 65c so they programme their trades to buy progressively throughout a set period (a day, a week, whatever) and in blocks, 100 or 500 etc.
